Abstract:

Chromium is one of the widely distributed heavy metal elements in nature. Its migration, transformation, absorption, and accumulation in the soil-crop system are influenced by multiple factors. The sources and speciation transformation patterns of chromium in soil, the characteristics of chromium uptake, transport, and accumulation in crops, as well as its toxic effects and beneficial effects on human health are reviewed. Based on existing research gaps and challenges in chromium health risk assessment, a systematic research framework integrating soil processes, crop responses, and human health effects is proposed.
